PabloRuizPicassowasbornin1881inasmalltownonthesoutherncoastofSpain.Hisfatherwasapainterwhotaughtart.Picassoshowedexceptionaltalentatanearlyageand,bythetimehewasinhisteens,paintedbetterthanhisfatheroranyofthelocalartteachers.Atsixteen,PicassowassenttotheRoyalAcademyofMadrid,wherestudentsdrewfromplastercastsandcopiedworksoftheoldmasters.Picassofelttheseassignmentswerepointlessandbegantoworkonhisown.Picasso’sfathersoonbecameangrywithhisson’srebelliousbehavior,longhair,andstrangeclothes.HebelievedthatPicassowaswastinghistalentandscoldedhim,“Whydon’tyoucutyourhairandpaintsensibly?”
