Usinghumanmaterialinanimalsisnotnew.ScientistshavealreadycreatedmonkeysthathaveahumanformoftheHuntingdon'sgenesotheycanstudyhowthediseasedevelops;andmicewithlivers(肝)madefromhumancellsarebeingusedtostudytheeffectsofnewdrugs.
Howeverscientistssaythetechnologytoputevergreateramountsofhumangeneticmaterialintoanimalsisspreadingquicklyaroundtheworld-raisingthepossibilitythatsomescientistsinsomeplacesmaywanttogofurtherthanismorallyacceptable.
LastyearinBritaintherewasalivelydebateovernewlawsallowingthecreationofhuman-animalembryos(胚胎)forexperiments.Ononesideofthedebatewerereligiousgroupswhoclaimedthatsuchscienceinterfereswithnature.Opposingthemwerescientistswhopointedoutthatsuchexperimentswerevitaltoresearchcuresfordiseases.
Theexpertswillpublishreportsaftertheendofthestudyinwhichtheywillgivedefinitions(定义)foranimalembryoswithhumangenesorcellslookatsafetyandanimalwelfareissuesandconsidertherightlegalframeworktoworkwithin.
