  Howtochoosebooksyourbookdiscussiongroupwillenjoy   Therearemanydifferentwaystochoosebooksforyourbookclub/readinggroup,andthereisnoreasontostickwiththesameformulaallthetime.Hereareafewsuggestions:   Chooseatheme-e.g.aparticularculture,country,author,timeperiod,genreorsubject.Oravoidgettingstuckinathemebydeliberatelychoosingbooksthataredifferentfromeachother!BookBrowse'sreadingguidesaresortedbytitle,authorandawiderangeofthemes.   Takeitinturnstochoose.   Agreewhowillshortlistthebooksforthenextmeetingandhavethembringalong2-3recommendationswhichthemembersvoteon.   BrowseBookBrowse!   Agreatwaytofindexceptionalbooks,savetimeatyourmeetingsandbesurethateveryoneknowsabitaboutthebooksthey'regoingtobevotingon,isforonepersontovisitBookBrowseandselectashortlistofbooksthatlooktobeofparticularinterest.ThenemailtheURLs(pageaddresses)totheothermembers,whocanthenbrowsetheextensiveexcerpts,multiplereviewsetc.ofeachbookandcometothemeetingwithanopinionontheshortlistedbooks.   Ifyouhavetroubleagreeing,whynotreadallofthem(spreadoutoverafewmonthsofcourse)?   Ifyoufindyourselfdisappointedthatthegroupdon'twanttoreadabookthatyouthinklooksexcellent,keepinmindthatthereisabsolutelynothingstoppingyoureadingityourself-andifitprovestobeasgoodasyouthink,youcanalwaysrecommendittothegroupatalatertime!   Lookforrecommendationsatyourlibraryorbookstore.Mostlibrarieshavelistsofrecommendedtitlesand'librarianpicks',andmanylibarieswillbehappytoworkwithyouandyourgrouptofindbookchoicesthatyou'relikelytoenjoy;orcheckoutlistsofawardssuchasThePulitzerPrize,BookerPrizeandNationalBookAwards. Atleastforthefirstfewmeetings,choosereasonablyshortbooks(leaveWarandPeaceforalatermeeting!)withareadypreparedreadingguide.Avoidbooksthatareboundtobecomecontroversial(e.g.religionandpolitics)untilthegroupmembershavehadtimetogettoknoweachother.
