LastSept．11wasanimportantdaytoo．AfterunknowngunmenattackedaidworkersfromtheNobelPrize-winningMedicinessansFrontiersataroadblockonthatdaymostoftheinternationalaidgroupshelpingDarfur’s6millionpeoplestoppedusingtheroads．OnDec．18unknowngunmenattackedthesoutherntownofGereidA．Morethan70aidworkersthenpulledoutoftherefugee(难民)campthere－Darfur’slargestwith130000people－leavingonly10RedCrossemployeesbehind．Yetatthetimenoonesaidwhathadreallycausedthesuddenpullbacks．
DamaginghasbecomesurprisinglycommoninDarfurwhere200000Africanshavebeenkilledandathirdofthepopulationhavebeensentfleeingintocampsinthreeyearsofwar．Buttheattacksoninternationalaidworkerssuggestedadramaticanddangerousstart－toattackonpurposethosehelpingtokeepDarfur’smillionsofrefugeealive．AdozenpeoplefromforeignNGOs(non-governmentalorganizations)havebeenkilledinjustthepastsixmonthsmorethanpreviousyears．Thereareabout14000aidworkersinDarfurnowthemajorityofthemSudaneseworkingforforeignNGOsandU．N．agenciesanddelivering＄1billionayearinaid．Justafewmoreterribleattackscouldthrowthatintojeopardy．Lastweek14U．N．officesworkinginDarfurmadeaclearwarningthat“thehumanitarian(人道主义)organizationcannotpossiblymakecertainthesurvivalofthepopulationinDarfurifaidworkersdon’tfeelsafe．”
