Abstract.Thepresentstudyconsiderstherelationshipbetweencollegemothers’academicachievementgoals(bothlearningandperformance)andthemothers’attitudestowardtheirchildren’sschoolworkaswellastherelationshipbetweeneachofthesesetsofcharacteristicsinmothersandtheirelementary-school-agechildren’sattitudesaboutlearning.Resultsindicatethatamother’sadoptionoflearninggoalsinhercollegeeducationispositivelyrelatedtotheendorsementofaprocess/indirectfocuswithrespecttoassistingandevaluatingherchildonacademictasksandisassociatedwithmorepersonalsatisfactionwithprovidinghomeworkassistanceandgreateroptimismconcerningthebenefitsofsuchassistance.Resultsalsosuggestthatcollegemotherswithmoreofalearninggoalorientationand/ormoreofaprocess/indirectfocushavechildrenwhodisplayasimilarconcernwithlearningandapositiveattitudeabouthomework.Motherswhoadoptedmoreofaperson/productfocuswithrespecttotheirchild’sschoolworkhadchildrenwhowerelesslikelytointerprethomeworkandotherschooltasksasopportunitiestolearn.
