Jealousy,oneoftheSevenSinsinChristianity,isunquestionablyakindofhumannatureequallypossessedbyallmankinddespitethevarietyinraces,environmentsandcivilizations.Whileadmiration,acommonlyprevailingsentimentaswell,shoulddonoharmtotheownerascomparedwithenvy. 　　IntheBiblicalworld,theveryfirstmurderwasarousedbyenvyandinGreekMythologywecouldfortunatelyhavethisprivilegetoappreciatethecolorfulbutsinfulparadiseofjealousy.ItseemsthatEnvyisinevitableandunavoidableandeveryoneofusshouldhavetastedtheflavorofjealousyduringthelongandpainfulwaytowardsadulthood.Accordingtoscientificstudy,thetenderbuddingshootsofjealousysproutedintheheartofachildwhenwehavetocompetewithourbrothersorsistersbutfailtobeoutstandinginthatpeculiarperiodoftheformationofone’sbodyandsoul.Andwhat’smore,however,wegraduallylearninthatperiodhowtocorrectlydealwiththebuddingjealousyandthemeanstorestrainitwheneverthislittledevilshouldwanttoassertitself.Andnowadays,astheOneChildpolicyhasbecametheHorseSense,mostofus,especiallythosewhowereborninthe1980shavenoimmediatebrothersorsistersandwearemuchmorelikelyself-centeredinourwayofbehaviorandlackofcooperativeinclinationingeneral.Thatistosay,asaPost-1980Generationmember,weareinclinedtobejealous. 　　SohowtoefficientlyremedythisinimicalnaturalflawendowedbytheOmnipotencesincewehumansalwaystrysohardtoperfectourselves?Inmyopinion,theonlywaytoachievethisseeminglyimpossiblegoalistolearntoadmire,trytoappreciateothers’virtuesandadvantageswedonotownbutforalongtimehavecoveted,especiallythatofourpeers.Thedistinctionsbetweenenvyandadmirationareobviousenoughbutthereisonerespectstillworthyofmention,thatjealousywouldnotbearousedbetweentwopersonswhoarebynomeansrelatedinanysense.Forinstance,wemaybeenviouswhenoneofthepeershasgotanawardbutwedefinitelywon’tbejealousifMichaelJordanhasbeenconferredontheMVP.Andthedegreeofenvyoftenincreasesifthepeerwhohasoutdoneushadusedsometreacherytricksorshamefullytakensomeunfairadvantages.Andthistypeofenvyofteninevitablyresultsinoverflowingbuthiddenhatred.Thedecidedsafetyofthemiddlestationoflife,asadvocatedbyConfucianism,isoneoftheevidencesthatreflectman’sfeartowardthegrudgecausedbyjealousy. 　　Butenvyisnotastotallydevilishasitseemstobe.Slightjealousycanstimulateourdesiretoachievewhatwewantorwhatweenvy.AccordingtoFreudiantheories,itistheemotionofjealousywhichfinallystirsthepoorpeopleinmiserytopursuefairnessandjustice.Butcorrespondinglyitisamorbidanddestructiveemotionthatsometimesbothersandfrustratesus.
