PabloRuizPicasso(October25,1881–April8,1973)wasaSpanishpainterandsculptor.HisfullnamewasPabloDiegoJoséFranciscodePaulaJuanNepomucenoMaríadelosRemediosCiprianodelaSantísimaTrinidadClitoRuizyPicasso.[1]Oneofthemostrecognizedfiguresin20thcenturyart,heisbestknownastheco-founder,alongwithGeorgesBraque,ofcubism. 　　PabloPicassowasborninMálaga,Spain,thefirstchildofJoséRuizyBlascoandMaríaPicassoyLópez.HewaschristenedwiththenamesPablo,Diego,José,FranciscodePaula,JuanNepomuceno,MariadelosRemedios,andCiprianodelaSantísimaTrinidad.[2] 　　HewasJoseRuíz,apainterwhosespecialtywasthenaturalisticdepictionofbirdsandwhoformostofhislifewasalsoaprofessorofartattheSchoolofCraftsandacuratorofalocalmuseum.TheyoungPicassoshowedapassionandaskillfordrawingfromanearlyage;accordingtohismother,[3]hisfirstwordwas"piz,"ashorteningoflápiz,theSpanishwordforpencil.[4]ItwasfromhisfatherthatPicassohadhisfirstformalacademicarttraining,suchasfiguredrawingandpaintinginoil.AlthoughPicassoattendedartschoolsthroughouthischildhood,oftenthosewherehisfathertaught,heneverfinishedhiscollege-levelcourseofstudyattheAcademyofArts(AcademiadeSanFernando)inMadrid,leavingafterlessthanayear.
