AstudyledbyProfessorMarkWeiserofTelAvivUniversityandtheShebaMedicalCenteratTelHashomerHospitalhasdeterminedthatyoungmenwhosmokearelikelytohavelowerIQsthantheirnon-smokingpeers(同龄人).Tracking18-to21-year-oldmenenlistedintheIsraeliarmyinthelargesteverstudyofitskind,hehasbeenabletodemonstrateanimportantconnectionbetweenthenumberofcigarettesyoungmalessmokeandtheirIQ.
TheaverageIQforanon-smokerwasabout101,whilethesmokers’averagewasmorethansevenIQpointslower,atabout94,thestudydetermined.TheIQsofyoungmenwhosmokedmorethanapackadaywerelowerstill,atabout90.AnIQscoreinahealthypopulationofsuchyoungmen,withnomentaldisorders(心理疾病),fallswithintherangeof84to116.
