thereby是副词,后面的现在分词和thereby是没有词法关系的,没有thereby,那里也要是一个现在分词短语做句子动词的结果状语.thereby只是在语义上确定了这个现在分词短语必须是结果状语的作用,因为现在分词短语的作用还有做伴随状语的.
