Theparticipantswerealsorequiredtoanswerquestionssuchas“Howwouldyourateyourrelationshipwithyourmotherduringtheyearswhenyouweregrowingup?”and“Howmuchtimeandattentiondidyourmothergiveyouwhenyouneededit?”Thesamequestionswereaskedaboutfathers.
Peoplewhoreportedtheyhadagoodmother-childrelationshipreportedthreepercentlesspsychologicaldistress(忧虑)comparedtothosewhoreportedapoorrelationshipaccordingtoMallers.
Menwhoreportedhavingagoodrelationshipwiththeirfatherduringchildhoodweremorelikelytobelessemotionalwhenreactingtostressfuleventsintheircurrentdailylivesthanthosewhohadapoorrelationshipaccordingtoherfindings.
Alsothequalityofmotherandfatherrelationshipswassignificantlyassociated(有关)withhowmanystressfuleventstheparticipantsfacedonadailybasis.Inotherwordsiftheyhadapoorchildhoodrelationshipwithbothparentstheyreportedmorestressfulincidentsovertheeight-daystudywhencomparedtothosewhohadagoodrelationshipwiththeirparents.
