Theauctioneermustknowquiteaccuratelythecurrentmarketvaluesofthegoodsheissellingandheshouldbeacquainted(熟悉)withregularbuyersofsuchgoods.Hewillnotwastetimebystartingthebiddingtoolow.Hewillalsoencouragetherivalsamongbuyerstobidagainsteachotherinordertogetahighprice.Itislargelyinhisadvicethatasellerwillfixa“reserved”pricethatisapricebelowwhichthegoodscannotbesold.Eventhebestauctioneerhoweverfindsitdifficulttostopa“knock-out”(连裆拍货),becausedealersillegallyarrangedbeforehandnottobidagainsteachotherbutchooseoneofthemastheonlybidderinthehopeofbuyinggoodsatverylowprices.Ifsucha“knock-out”succeedstherealauctionsaletakesplaceprivatelyafterwardsamongthedealers.
