LONDON(Reuters)—Dealingwiththedissatisfactionofageingandunreliableofficecomputersleadstoworkers’unhappinessandmoresick-leaveasurvey(调查)showedonWednesday.
Asurveycarriedoutbycare4free.netofover2700EuropeanofficeworkersfromtheUKFranceandGermanyfoundthatworkplacedissatisfactionincreasedgreatlywiththeageofcomputerequipment.
“WedoknowthatjobsatisfactionisfallinginBritainandinmostadvancednations”saidStephenWhitearesearcherfromtheWorkFoundation.“Theactualreasonsforthisarethesubjectofveryheateddiscussion.It’scertainlyoneinterestingtheorythattechnologymaybethecauseofthisinsomeway”Whiteadded.
AquarterofthoseusingoutdatedcomputersinBritainsaidtheywere“quite”or“verydissatisfied”withtheireverydayjobcomparedto16percentofthosewhohadenjoyedanadvantagefromup-to-datetechnology.
Thesurveyalsosaidthatamongworkersdealingwithoutdatedequipmenttherewasa35percentgreaterprobabilitytheywouldtakesixormortdaysofsick-leaveperyearcomparedwiththeaverageworker.InFrancewheremoreworkersuseoldercomputerstheprobabilityjumpedto55percent.
Resultsalsoshowedthatwomeninthethreecountriesweremorelikelytobeusingoutdatedequipment.IntheUKwheremoreworkershaveup-to-datecomputersthanintheothercountiessurveyedthenumberofwomenusingoldequipmentdoubledthatofmen.
Whitepointedoutthatthereweretwosidestothisproblemsayingthatcontinuallyhavingtodealwithnewtechnologyandnewequipmentcanalsobeasourceofworry.“Oldandfaultyequipmentisamajorcauseofofficedissatisfactionthere’snoquestionaboutitbutyoualsohavetosaythatthefrequentchangeofequipmentisalsoorcouldbeamaincauseofdissatisfaction.”
