ManyChinesehighschoolstudentsaretiredoftheirparents’nagging(唠叨).Theythinktheirparents’highexpectationsareburdens(负担).ButarecentsurveyfoundthattheyaremuchluckierthanteenagersinJapan,theRepublicofKoreaandtheUS,whoalsofindtheirparentsannoying.TheparentsofforeignteenshaveevenhigherexpectationsoftheirchildrenthanChineseparents.62%ofChinesefathersand66%ofChinesemothershavehighexpectationsoftheirchildrenathighschoolage.Theyrankthirdandfourthamongfathersandmothersoffourcountries.Japanesemotherstopthelistwith76%havinghighexpectations,while70%ofKoreanfathersexpecttoomuchoftheirchildren.Japaneseteensarethemostdeeplytroubledbytheirparentsconstantly(总是)comparingthemwithotherkids.
ThesurveyalsofoundthatChinesestudentsarethemostsatisfiedwiththeirparents.Theyblamethemless,andalsoreceivelesscriticismthanthosefromtheotherthreecountries.However,satisfactiondoesn’tmeantheyarehappy.Ofthefourcountries,Chinesechildrenarenotthehappiestathome.Theygettheleastpraisefromtheirparentsandtheydon’tfeelabletoexpresstheirunhappinesstothem,
“Resultsfromthesurveyshowthatinspiteofdifferentculturalbackgrounds,generationgaps(代沟)existinmanycountriesotherthanChina.It’sevenbiggerelsewhere,”saidSunYunsxiao,fromtheChinaYonthandChildrenResearchCentre.HesaidthatChineseparentsareusedtoburyingtheirfeelingsdeepintheirhearts,whichmakestheirchildrennotwanttotalkopenlywiththem.“ThissurveyshowsthatbothparentsandteenagersinChinaneedtoworkoncommunicatingandunderstandingeachother.”
Besidestheirfamilylife,studentswerealsoquestionedabouttheiropinionsonthemselvesandothersintheworld.USstudentsshowedmore“individuality,”with88%agreeingthat“peopleshouldfollowtheirowninterestsinsteadofthoseofothers”.Koreanswerethenextmostindependent,followedbytheChineseandJapanese.
