TheMoon(Mid-autumn)Festival/Day 　　x09"ZhongQiuJie"whichisalsoknownastheMid-AutumnFestival,iscelebratedonthe15thdayofthe8thmonthofthelunarcalendar. 　　x09Mid-Autumnisatimeforfamilymembersandlovedonestocongregateandenjoythefullmoon-anauspicioussymbolofabundance,harmonyandluck.AdultswillusuallyindulgeinfragrantmooncakesofmanyvarietieswithagoodcupofpipinghotChinesetea,whilethelittleonesrunaroundwiththeirbrightly-litlanterns."ZhongQiuJie"probablybeganasaharvestfestival.ThefestivalwaslatergivenamythologicalflavourwithlegendsofChang-E,thebeautifulladyinthemoon.AccordingtoChinesemythology,theearthoncehad10sunscirclingoverit.Oneday,all10sunsappearedtogether,scorchingtheearthwiththeirheat.Theearthwassavedwhenastrongarcher,HouYi,succeededinshootingdown9ofthesuns.Yistoletheelixiroflifebuttosavethepeoplefromhistyrannicalrule,hiswife,Chang-Edrankit.ThusstartedthelegendoftheladyinthemoontowhomyoungChinesegirlswouldprayattheMid-AutumnFestival. 　　x09Inthe14thcentury,theeatingofmooncakesat"ZhongQiuJie"wasgivenanewsignificance.ThestorygoesthatwhenZhuYuanZhangwasplottingtooverthrowtheYuandynastystartedbytheMongolians,therebelshidtheirmessagesintheMid-Autumnmooncakes.ZhongQiuJieishencealsoacommemorationoftheoverthrowoftheMongoliansbytheHanpeople.DuringtheYuandynasty(A.D.1280-1368)ChinawasruledbytheMongolianpeople.LeadersfromtheprecedingSungdynasty(A.D.960-1280)wereunhappyatsubmittingtoforeignrule,andsethowtocoordinatetherebellionwithoutitbeingdiscovered.Theleadersoftherebellion,knowingthattheMoonFestivalwasdrawingnear,orderedthemakingofspecialcakes.Backedintoeachmooncakewasamessagewiththeoutlineoftheattack.Onthenightofthe[Page]MoonFestival,therebelssuccessfullyattackedandoverthrewthegovernment. 　　x09WhatfollowedwastheestablishmentoftheMingdynasty(A.D.1368-1644).Today,mooncakesareeatentocommemoratethisevent.
