In1859HenryDunantwasa30year-oldSwissbusinessmantravelingthroughnorthernItaly．Hewasworkingonaproposal(提议)，whichhehopedtosharewiththeEmperorofFrance．Thebusinessventure(冒险)hedreamedaboutwasinAlgeriaanditneededthefullsupportoftheEmperor．TogainthissupportHenryhadtofollowtheEmperortoItalywherehewaswaging(发动)abloodywar．

CompletelyuntrainedforsuchasituationHenryhelpedthenursesandusedhiswagon(车辆)totransportsupplies．HewroteletterstohisfriendsinSwitzerlandforhelp．Asheworkedalongsidethenursesherealizedtheywerecompletelyoverwhelmed(淹没)bythenumberofmenneedinghelp．Hefrequentlyheardthemrepeataphrasethatwouldstickwithhimforyearstocome－TuttiFratelli．Thephrasesimplymeant“allarebrothers”andthenurseswouldsayittomakesureeveryonereceivedequaltreatmentregardlessofwhicharmytheycamefrom．

EmotionallyexhaustedHenryreturnedhometoGenevabutstruggledtoforgetthetrauma(伤害)ofCastiglione．HisdreamsofbusinessinAlgeriafaded(减弱)．Heknewhehadtodomoreabouttheinhumanity(不人道)ofwaranddecidedtowriteabookaboutthesituationinCastiglione．InhisbookAMemoryofSolferinopublishedin1862hecalledfortrainedprofessionalswhocouldproviderelieftothewoundedduringwarreliefwithoutfearofattack．

Henrywasagoodspeakerandwriteranddecidedtoputthesetalentstouseinsupportofhiscause．AdditionallyhemailedcopiesofhisbooktogovernmentalleadersthroughoutEurope．FourmenfromtheGenevaPublicWelfareSocietyjoinedHenryandorganizedaconferenceonthetopicin1863．36peoplerepresenting14Europeangovernmentsattended．Thenextyeartheydiditagain．ThatsessionbecameknownastheGeneva(日内瓦)Convention．Thegroupalsoagreedthatthesymbolofthereliefworkerduringtimesofb
