Itwasn'tuntilthesixteenthcenturythatFerdinandMagellan'sexpedition(探险队)becamethefirsttotravelaroundtheworld.TheexpeditionfirstsailedwestfromPortugal(葡萄牙),aroundSouthAmerica,acrossthePacific,beforereturningaroundSouthAfricabacktoPortugal.AlthoughMagellandiedduringthetrip,oneofhiscaptains,SebastiandelCano,madeitalltheway.

In1872,theFrenchauthorJulesVernepublishedabookcalledAroundtheWorldin80Days.Thenovelwasaboutamanwhotravelsaroundtheworld,startingfromLondon,towinabet(赌).

In1889,anAmericanreporter,NellieBly,wassentbyhernewspapertocompletethejourneytakenbythecharactersinVerne'sbook.Shetraveledaroundtheworld,sendingreportsbacktohernewspaperaboutherjourney.Shefinallyarrivedbackhomeafterhertrip,taking72days,sixhours,elevenminutes,andfourteensecondstogoaroundtheworld.

Eventhoughtravelingaroundtheworldthesedaysisveryeasy,andcanbedoneinoneortwodaysbyplane,peoplearestillinterestedinbreakingrecords(打破纪录).

From1970to1974,anAmerican,DaveKunst,wasthefirstpersontowalkallthewayaroundtheworld.Heworeouttwenty-onepairsofshoesonhistrip!Thefirstairplaneflightaroundtheworldtookplacein1924,completedbyLt.LowellH.SmithandfiveotherAmericanpilots,andthefirstsolohelicopterflightaroundtheworldwasdonebyanAustralianexplorer,DickSmith,in1982-83.

Asforanonstopballoonflightallthewayaroundtheworld,thiswasn'tcompleteduntil2002,whenSteveFossettsucceededatlast.
