Insuchtop-rankingbusinessschoolsasCornell,permanentjobrecruitingstartsassoonasthesecondyearstarts.Thereisaspecialoffice,theCareerServiceOffice(CSO),whichisinchargeofpostingon-campusinterviewschedules,collectingstudents’resumesandcoordinatingthecompanyandstudentsinregardtotheinterview.Usually,duringthesummertime,companiesstarttobookwiththeCSOwhentomakepresentationsoncampus,whentocollectresumesandwhentoconductinterviews.Bymid-September,theCSOwillstartthefirstroundofresumedrop.Throughoutthewholesemester,thereareabout12ormoreroundsofresumedropandeachroundiscomposedofabout20companies.Overthepasttwoyears,thejobmarkethasbeenunprecedentedlygood,andlotsofcompanieshavecometocampustorecruit.
However,forinternationalstudents,theopportunitiesareverylimited.Almosttwo-thirdsoftheAmericancompanieswillstateattheendoftheirjobdescriptionsthattheyarenotrecruitingstudentswithoutUSworkauthorization.IntheStates,internationalstudentsareonF-1visastatus.Oncetheyareemployedbythecompaniesupongraduation,theyneedtochangetoH-1status,togettheworkauthorization,whichhastobesponsoredbytheiremployers.Thelegalprocessistroublesomeandtime-consuming.Therefore,toavoidthetroubles,manycompaniesdonotwanttorecruitinternationalstudentswithoutworkauthorization,whichmeansthattheinternationalstudentscanapplyonlywhentheyhaveagreencard.Giventhefactthatonlyaboutone-thirdofthecompaniescomingtocampustorecruitarewillingtoemployinternationalstudentsandsponsorthemtogetthenecessaryworkauthorization,itisnotdifficulttoimaginehowfiercethecompetitionsareamonginternationalstudentsoncampus.Fortunately,beyondtheconfinesofthecampus,therearestillmorecompaniesouttherewhichhaveagreatneedforMBAstudentsandarewillingtosponsortheinternationalstudentshavingnogreencardstogettheH-1workvisa.Withthesecompanies,whatyouneedtodoistonetwork.Icannotstressenoughhowimportantnetworkingisinjob-hun
